We couldn’t have asked for better weather or a better audience for the first concert of The Maryland Military Band on Sunday, July 30, 2017. More than 45 musicians joined conductor Jari Villanueva to perform at the Humbert Amphitheater located at Shamrock Park in Bel Air, Maryland. Our theme for this program was “Music of the Great War,” commemorating the 100th anniversary of the US entry into World War One.
From the quintessentially American music of George M. Cohan and John Philip Sousa, to hidden gems like James Reese Europe, to music of our allies in England and France, listeners were transported back in time to enjoy an evening of songs and memories, tied together with narration introducing each piece. In addition to the full concert band, the program featured a selection performed by The Maryland Military Band Woodwind Quintet, showcasing just one of the many small ensembles that the Band includes in its variety of musical offerings to meet all sorts of performance needs.
You can watch a video of the entire concert from the YouTube link now in the sidebar of this page, and please stay tuned for future performances which will be added here as they are scheduled.
